S ED 4300 - Characteristics of Students with Special Needs and Strategies for Differentiating Instruction


This course is designed to focus on psychological theories related to children & youth with exceptional needs, and research-based strategies for differentiating instruction. Emphasis will be placed on the identification, etiology, and characteristics of learners with intellectual, physical, emotional, social, behavioral, and educational differences, including research-based strategies related to classroom organization, curricular modification, and methods of teaching exceptional learners in the general education classroom. Information pertaining to assessment, and collaborative-consultation strategies for working with family, community members and agencies, and related services personnel will also be covered.

Prerequisites
Admission to College of Education; Completion of a minimum of one methods course in the area of specialization is required before taking this course.
