The Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS) in Special Education is designed for candidates who are already licensed as general education teachers and are only interested in taking the four courses required by the Illinois State Board of Education for adding the Special Education Learning Behavioral Specialist - I Endorsement to their current/existing professional educator license.

Admission Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree or higher
Illinois State Board of Education Initial Professional Educator License

Required Courses (9-12 Credits)

*Indiviuals who have completed the prerequsite equivalent oof S ED 5301 Characteristics of Exceptional Children as part of an initial licensure program may have that course counted as transfer credit.
S ED 5301 - Characteristics of Exceptional Children Credit Hours: 3
S ED 5476 - Characteristics of Learners with Behavioral, Learning, and Cognitive Disabilities Credit Hours: 4
S ED 5482 - Curricular Adaptations for Learners with Special Needs Credit Hours: 3
S ED 5487 - Assessment, Measurement, and Evaluation of Learners with Special Needs Credit Hours: 3

Program Completion Requirements

The Post-Baccalaureate Certificate will be awarded if the candidate has a completed all required courses with a cumulative GPA of 3.0.
