Honors College Core Curriculum Overview
The Honors College Core Curriculum consists of a total of eight (8) courses as follows:
Honors College Program
In addition to the Honors College core curriculum, students in the Honors College are required to complete a series of seminars and colloquia HON 1000 ,HON 2000 , HON 3000 , & HON 4000 ), as well as participate in campus and community service. Students who complete the entire Honors College program and maintain good standing in the Honors College are eligible to be awarded University Honors on their transcript and diploma upon completion of their undergraduate degree program.
There are two pathways to complete the Honors College program - Pathway 1 for students who start in the Honors College as freshmen (first-year students), and Pathway 2 for students who start in the Honors College as transfer students or current Chicago State students. Pathway 1 consists of a total of 28 credit hours of coursework, and Pathway 2 consists of a total of 16 credit hours of coursework.
Honors College Program of Study
Degrees Available at CSU: Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Sciences, with University Honors
The Honors College program is composed of two parts: (1) an enriched, interdisciplinary general education curriculum taken primarily during students’ first and second years at the university (known as the Honors College Core Curriculum), and (2) a series of research and fieldwork focused seminars and colloquia. Students who complete the Honors College program receive University Honors on their transcripts and diplomas.
Pathway 1
Incoming freshmen and 1st year students.
Admission Requirements:
Students seeking admissions must apply through the Admissions Office and also apply directly to the Honors College program. Students who are applying as new first-year students (freshmen) must have a minimum of a 3.5 high school GPA, and must submit an Honors College personal statement and at least two letters of recommendation. Pathway 2
Transfer and current CSU students.
Admission Requirements:
Students seeking admissions must apply through the Admissions Office and also apply directly to the Honors College program. Students who are applying as current CSU students or new transfer students must have a minimum of a 3.35 cumulative college GPA, and must submit an Honors College personal statement and at least two letters of recommendation.
Honors College Program Pathway 2 Guidelines:
Students who start in the Honors College as new transfer students or as students previously enrolled at CSU follow the Honors College Pathway 2 program requirements. This program pathway can be completed in either two or three academic years, and therefore assumes that students have at least one full year of college coursework completed, with approximately 30 credit hours. Students’ exact Honors coursework in this pathway will be determined by their previously completed general education courses, as well as previously completed major courses.
