Physical Education Post-Baccalaureate Licensure Program

This post-baccalaureate licensure program provides individuals holding a baccalaureate degree the opportunity to complete program requirements needed to earn Illinois teacher licensure for K-12 physical education. Program completers qualify for a Professional Educator License (PEL) for grades K-12. Completion requires the passing of the Illinois Content Area Test for Physical Education and the edTPA portfolio.

All courses require a grade of C or above as transfer credit or completed at Chicago State University.

Successful completion of all listed pre-requisites and all eighteen credit hours of required course work with the prerequisite of admission to the College of Education (see table below).

S ED 5301 - Characteristics of Exceptional Children Credit Hours: 3 (15f) (Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters)
P E 5530 - Methods and Practicum in Physical Education in the Elementary/Middle School Credit Hours: 3 (Spring semester only)
ESL 5120 - Teaching English as Second Language Credit Hours: 3 (f20)
P E 5540 - Methods and Practicum in Physical Education in the Secondary School Credit Hours: 3 (Fall semester only)
P E 5520 - Internship in Physical Education Credit Hours: 3 (f100) (Long semester before P E 5750 )
P E 5750 - Student Teaching in K-12 Physical Education Credit Hours: 6 (No other courses may be taken during the semester of student teaching. Last semester.)

Transfer Credit to CSU:

A maximum of nine credit hours of combined prerequisite and required licensure professional education courses taken at a junior or community college can be transferred. Credit for P E 5520 , P E 5530 , P E 5540 , and P E 5750 cannot be transferred into the program.
