Information Technology Certificate Minor

Students can pursue the Information Technology (IT) certificate minor as a separate undergraduate certificate or as a minor concentration. Students who are interested in the certificate option need to meet admission requirements set by the University. Courses are offered so that those who pursue the certificate can complete it in one year. The certificate program consists of five required courses plus one elective course. The concentration of the certificate/minor is on applied computer networking courses. The certificate is designed to prepare students to test for at least three of the highly respected industrial certification examinations. These certificates are A+, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), and either Network + or Wireless.

Certificate Minor Requirements


  1. Pass all five required courses.
  2. Pass at least one elective course that can be chosen from the two possible elective courses.
  3. Register for the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) examination within two months after finishing all four CCNA courses.
  4. Obtain the A+ Certificate within two months of finishing the A+ course.
  5. Obtain either the Network+ certificate or be a Certified Wireless Security Professional (CWSP).

The CSU Information Technology Certificate Minor will be awarded upon the completion of all above requirements.
