Department Overview

The Department of Computing, Information, and Mathematical Sciences, and Technology (CIMST) offers comprehensive programs in four key areas: Computer Science (CPTR), Library and Information Science (LIS), Mathematics (MATH), and Technology of Performance Improvement Studies (TPIS). Each program is designed to explore the dynamic interrelationships among people, information, and technology, equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed for various professional paths.

Computer Science (CPTR)

We offer both Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Computer Science, along with a minor for students majoring in other fields. The Computer Science curriculum covers essential topics such as programming, database management, software engineering, and communications and networks. Students can also take graduate-level courses in artificial intelligence (AI), databases, network security, and data science to enhance their specialties.

Specializations and Minors: Students may concentrate in Computer Engineering and are encouraged to earn minors in Mathematics, Information Technology (IT), or Security and Intelligence Studies (SIS). Additionally, students are urged to pursue industrial certifications and internships to gain practical skills and enhance their employability.

Industry Certifications and Support: Supported by its Amazon, Cisco, and CompTIA academies, the Department offers IT courses preparing students for various certifications, such as CCNA, A+, Network+, Security+, and AWS Cloud Foundation Practitioner.

Graduate Programs: We offer a Master of Science degree in Computer Science, providing advanced education and research opportunities. In addition, we offer Post-Baccalaureate Certificates in:

  • Computer Security
  • Databases and Data Analytics

These programs are designed to meet the needs of professionals seeking specialized knowledge and skills to advance their careers in the tech industry.

Career and Advanced Study Preparation: Graduates are well-prepared for roles in private industry or government and for advanced studies in their specialization areas. Minors and certifications significantly enhance employment prospects.

Library and Information Science (LIS)

Our Information Studies program, with an emphasis on Library and Information Science, focuses on the creation, organization, representation, access, dissemination, preservation, and management of information. Students learn to leverage information technologies to improve performance and productivity in various settings, addressing ethical, political, social, cultural, and economic aspects of information access and use.

Career Applications: Graduates apply their knowledge and skills in diverse environments, including libraries, schools, educational institutions, businesses, archives, and non-profit organizations.

Mathematics (Math)

Mathematics Minor: The department offers a minor sequence in mathematics, providing students majoring in other disciplines with powerful professional tools and a deeper understanding of their own fields.

Technology of Performance Improvement Studies (TPIS)

The TPIS program emphasizes using technology to enhance human performance in organizations. Students explore how information and technology can be utilized to improve individual and group productivity.

Program Offerings: The TPIS curriculum covers a variety of topics, including applied information technology, human performance technology, media, telecommunications management, and computer networking.

Career Applications: Graduates are equipped to apply their skills in numerous settings, driving performance improvement through innovative technological solutions.
