AFAM 4357 - History of Haiti

History of Haiti from indigenous times to the present with a particular focus on the Haitian Revolution, Africans’ complete victory over slavery. Major themes include Arawak/Taino background, independent Haiti in the 19th century, Africanisms in Haitian culture, and United States occupation in the 20th century.
