S ED 5477 - Adapt: Phys/Hlth Dis Characteristics & Instructional Adaptations for Learners with Physical and Health Disabilities (3) This course focuses on characteristics, intervention strategies, assistive technologies, and inclusive practices for learners with physical and other health impairments. Emphasis will be placed on best practices teachers can use in working with these students, including approaches for positioning and handling, facilitating movement, and helping these learners develop self-care skills. A review of existing adaptive equipment and its safe use will also be covered, including the utilization of trans-disciplinary teams and support services, and the importance of family involvement for children with physical and other health impairments. 15 hours of field-based experiences are required in this course. These field experiences focus on extensive observations conducted under the supervision of the classroom teacher in collaboration with the departmental faculty. Prerequisite: S ED 4301/301, 5301/301G
