International Student Admission


Admission of International Students

Chicago State University is approved by the US Department of Justice-Immigration and Naturalization Service to enroll international (nonimmigrant) students. In general, international students must meet the same academic standards and policies for admission that apply to US citizens. In addition, all applicants must provide evidence of their former academic work, English proficiency, and adequate financial resources. 

Prior to admission:

  1. Applicants are required to submit a Scholaro’s GPA and Degree report through the dedicated custom link for Chicago State University here.

 

Following admission and enrollment:

Within 45 days of first semester enrollment to the classes, applicants must submit a General Credential Evaluation of all foreign educational credentials (transcripts) directly to Chicago State University by any one of the following professional evaluation service agencies:

  1. scholaro. Website: https://www.scholaro.com/reports/Credential-Evaluation
  2. Education Credentials Evaluators (ECE). Website: ece.org
  3. World Educational Service (WES). Website: wes.org
  4. Educational Perspective. Website: edperspective.org
  • Not adhering to this requirement may lead to a registration hold for subsequent terms and could potentially result in the cancellation of your university admission.

Additional documents required and fee:

  • Online application for admission to a graduate degree program;
  • Application fee
  • Bank Statement showing the available funds [detailed day-to-day transaction copies are NOT needed].
  • Proof of English Proficiency.
  • Letters of Recommendations (If applicable)

International students are strongly encouraged to submit their applications at least two months before the deadline to facilitate the preparation of documents required for visa. Upon admission to the graduate school, student’s information is forwarded to the Office of Global Engagement for further processing of I-20/Visa documentation.

English Proficiency Requirement for International Students

International applicants must present a minimum score from one of the following English Testing agencies:

  1. TOEFL Official score Report, Minimum total score of 69 is required.
  2. IELTS Official Score Report, Minimum overall score of 6.0 is required.
  3. TOEFL Essential Official Score Report, Minimum overall score of 8 is required.
  4. Duolingo Official Score Report, Minimum overall score of 95 is required.
  5. Pearson Official Score Report, Minimum overall score of 51 is required.
  6. Apply for English Proficiency Requirement Waiver. [ Note: You should meet atleast one category described in the English Proficiency waiver application form, to be eligible for Waiver].
